Our ceiling ... not the best, but it helps protect us from the elements.
The ceiling of the homeless ... at the mercy of summer's heat and winter's cold.
Our kitchen ... nothing fancy, but it's stocked with food.
Kitchen of the homeless ... too often this is all that stands between them and starvation.
Though there are those who feel they haven't enough material goods ... nice homes, cars, clothing, food ... there are those with even less.
Count your blessings, have a heart, and help         those who are less fortunate, please.
Please support the natural resource industries ... those who act responsibly. Without them we would be hungry, naked, homeless, and wouldn't have benefit of modern transportation. Preserving the earth's environment is crucial, but so is the quality of life. Balance is key.

As I See It
I have to admit I was one of those who kept wanting more and better And if more and better happen to come my way, I probably won't turn it down. I'm not proud of that, but if I'm going to be honest, I have to admit it. Like most everyone, I would love having a nice home, and beautiful things. I've been guilty of feeling sorry for myself and my family because we have had to make do while others were enjoying new cars, spacious homes, and beautiful furniture ... but hopefully I have done some growing up.
The house we're presently in was built by my husband's parents in the early1950's, and has definately seen better days. It sat vacant for a few years before we bought it and moved in, so we came to a house with a roof that leaked like a seive, had been flooded, and had oodles of other problems. One by one, we are getting some of the major ones taken care of, but it hasn't been easy and we have a long way to go.
It occurred to me one day as I sat looking at the crumbling cement floor, the cracked block walls, and the water stained ceiling, that as rough as this place was, we were still much better off than those with no home at all. We have a warm bed to go to each night, warm showers when we want or need them, and food in our tummies.  We have enough clothes to see us though and enough money to get a few things when we don't. All our basic needs are met ... more than many others in this nation, let alone the world can say, unfortunately. So who was I to sit and feel sorry for myself and this family? Instead of wasting my time doing that, it occurred to me that I should be counting my blessings and seeing what I could do to help others.
I believe we should use our GOD given talents to do so. As the Bible says in Matthew 25:40, And the King shall answer saying unto them, Verily I say unto you, In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
So I decided to start crocheting. I found sites on the net devoted to donating handmade items for distribution to those in crisis. Crocheting is a small thing to do for my fellow man, I know, but it's what I do best ... what I feel is my GOD given talent. I am hoping and praying others will join me. If handwork isn't your forte' you can still help by donating yarn, if not to me, then to others who are crocheting and knitting for those in need. You will find them by following the links to other sites provided on the next page.
So please, count your blessings instead of chasing the end of the rainbow your whole life ... perhaps never feeling satisfied in this materialistic world ... and think of others who are in need of the basics.

Rethink, refocus, and help, please.

Thank you and may GOD bless!
